Amazon Women on the Moon

Images of Femininity in the Video Age
Article by Andi Zeisler, appeared in issue Premiere; published in 1996; filed under Broadcast; tagged androgyny, gender, gender bending, mtv, music videos, rock, sex objects, sexualization, stereotypes, women in rock.

"Subversion on a Massive Level"

Gender as Constructed Spectacle
Article by Lisa Jervis, appeared in issue Premiere; published in 1996; filed under Film; tagged gender, gender roles, Hollywood, movies, relationships, sexuality, spectacle.

Instead of an entertaining but benign and forgettable 90 minutes, I got a playful, subversive discourse on gender as a constructed spectacle.

Strange Justice

Author:

Jane Mayer

Title of work:

Strange Justice: The Selling of Clarence Thomas

Get angry all over again. An incredibly detailed historical account of the events leading up to Thomas’ confirmation, this tome gives you all the evidence you need to confirm your own sneaking suspicions about the rampant sexism and racism of our lovely political system. See how senators overlooked, hid, and distorted evidence; see how witnesses were ignored and manipulated. We all need to sort through the confusing maelstrom of rhetoric that was the Hill/Thomas hearings. Help is here.
